Star Wars: Shattered Empire

"Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
It kinda of says it all.

This 4 issue miniseries brings the bitter-sweet taste of the Rebel Alliance´s triumph over Palpatine´s Empire. It all starts in Endor, with the Rebels celebrating the destruction of the 2nd Death Star, along with the fall of Palpatine and Vader (you can see the genuine happiness in our heroes faces in issue #1´s cover).
But they soon realize that some Imperials did not acknowledge defeat. Worse than that, they discover that even dead, Palpatine still had plans to finish the Rebel Alliance. From here on I won´t spoil the script, go grab your comics now!
They are beautifully sketched by Marco Checchetto and colored by Andres Mossa. Greg Rucka took the helm at writing a story that takes the fans to the undiscovered journey that was the (supposed) end of the Galactic Empire. Let´s see what the movie will unveil in 2 months time.

The miniseries was concluded yesterday with number #4 (hoping to grab it in my comic book shop next week).

P.S. - if you love covers as I do, check these variants, they are AWESOME!!!

Good news!

The month of May is full of great news!

As always we had May the 4th, with tons of incredible deals and bargains from lots of brands. I had my share with Lego, I got an amazing R2-D2 for a very good price. As a bonus, Lego offered a poster and a mini figure of Darth Revan, pretty cool!

Then, in the 14th of May, we had to "thank the Maker", to quote C-3PO. It was George Lucas´ birthday and I´m sure we all hope he still has many more to come.

Also during this month, we heard rumours that a new name was being given to the new movie, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Ancient Fear". Check MovieWeb for more details.

We also had new from Del Rey Books, about a new title to be released this November, "Tarkin" by writer James Luceno. Indeed some I wish to read!

And today, the announcement that the official filming (whatever this means) had began! All of us fans already some some pics in Dubai of the preparations, a foot of a AT-At Walker or something similar if I recall, but today The Star Wars Underworld gave us this article that you should check.

All in all, May has been a terrific month for Star Wars fans, and we hope it continues to be with more thrilling news and updates about the new movie and the E.U.

May the Force be with you all!

Death Star novel

At the moment, I´m reading my first Star Wars novel, "Death Star", a great piece of work by writers Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.

As a fan, without any particular reason, I must confess that I never read a single novel of the greatest saga of all time. True... but, it´s never too late and here I am, with "Death Star" by my side and loving every single page of it.
In the EU of Star Wars, I was always a comic book explorer. I follow almost every single one of them, have a huge collection, I know the release dates, but I always left the novels aside. Until now. Now I´m "doomed", as 3PO says, I have a loooooooot to catch up!

Back to the book, so far I´m at page 72, starting chapter 11. But there was a passage that I particularly enjoyed and I want to share, ´cause talks about hyperspace and a condition named "hyper-rapture". And Darth Vader is part of it...

"IMPERIAL-CLASS STAR DESTROYER DEVASTATOR, EN ROUTE TO HORUZ SYSTEM

Darth Vader stood on the bridge of his warship, staring out through the forward viewport at the kaleidoscopic chaos of hyperspace. The effect, even moving at the relatively stately speed of a Star Destroyer, was akin to tumbling down an endless tunnel of amorphous, whirling patterns of light—starlight and nebulae smeared into impressionistic blotches by the ship´s superluminal speed. He knew that even experienced spacers and navy personnel often hesitated to look out at it. Standard operating procedure was to keep the thick slabs of transparisteel opaqued while traveling through the higher-dimensional universe. There was something profoundly wrong about hyperspace, composed as it was of more than the three spatial and one temporal dimensions that most sentient species were used to. Looking too long into hyperspace promised madness, so the stories went. He had never heard of anyone actually succumbing to "hyper-rapture", as it was called. Nevertheless, the legends persisted.
Vader enjoyed staring into it.

Star Wars and Shakespeare

“In time so long ago begins our play / In star-crossed galaxy far, far away.”

Author Ian Doescher put pen to paper to a very hard task, to give a Shakespearean vision of Star Wars. He was abble to finish the task to rejoice of many fans and curious alike, and the book is available for purchase since July.

Here´s a very interesting review from Maria Popova, in the Brain Pickings website.

The illustrations are from Nicolas Delort.

Gratitude to my friend Saki for sharing this book.

More comics on the way

Here is some info from the CBR website about the new Dark Horse series, "Star Wars: Dark Times – Fire Carrier":

Star Wars: The Essential Atlas

I´m a huge fan of maps. Almost anything that you can chart, here I am, ready to check it! I recently discovered that Dan Wallace and Jason Fry have made a pretty good job mapping the most famous galaxy of all times, and I would like to recommend this wonderful book to all maps, planets and of course, Star Wars fans.
Every planet name, system or nebula will now be easy to spot. As any book as its limitations, the authors had the excellent idea of making an appendix, available for download here, where you can find all known star systems in the Star Wars galaxy.

I hope you enjoy the journey! Click the pictures for more info.
May the Force be with you.

Star Wars #1

Dark Horse has decided to bring it all back into the beggining. Together, writer Brian Wood and artist Carlos D´Anda put effort to bring us back the first days of the Star Wars universe. As they say:
"This is Star Wars as you remember it . . . and as you have never seen it before! We’re taking you back to those heady, adventure-filled days following the destruction of the Death Star—when the Empire ruled, the Rebels were on the run, and the galaxy was a dangerous place where anything might happen!"

I don´t know if all the series covers will be Alex Ross´ making, but the first one is a thumbs up!

Let´s wait for the 9th of January to check how the new action will be going.

Star Wars: Darth Plagueis

Can´t wait to grab it... :))))

In Revenge of the Sith, while attending a ballet, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine casually mentions to Anakin Skywalker the tale of Darth Plagueis. Plagueis was a Sith Lord so wise and powerful, that he could even manipulate the Force to create life or stop death in others. Ironically, such a powerful being could not prevent his own death, for in the way of the Sith, Plagueis was killed in his sleep by his apprentice.
Palpatine told the captivating tale to start certain wheels spinning in the Chosen One's head. Ever since then, Star Wars fans have been clamoring to know more about Plagueis. Author James Luceno delves into the secrets of the dark side to find out more about Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis in a new hardcover novel, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis, due out this winter.

Star Wars: Darth Plagueis by James Luceno will be available in hardcover and ebook formats on December 27, 2011 from Del Rey Books.

The Lost Tribe of the Sith

"For the ruthless Sith Order, failure is not an option. It is an offense punishable by death -- and a fate to which Commander Yaru Korsin will not succumb. But on a crucial run to deliver troops and precious crystals to a combat hotspot in the Sith's war against the Republic, Korsin and the crew of the mining ship Omen are ambushed by a Jedi starfighter. And when the Sith craft crash-lands, torn and crippled, on a desolate alien planet, the hard-bitten captain finds himself at odds with desperate survivors on the brink of mutiny -- and his own vengeful half brother, who's bent on seizing command.

No matter the cost, Korsin vows that it will not be his blood and bones left behind on this unknown world. For the way of the Sith leaves little room for compromise -- and none for mercy."

This is the synopsis for the new Star Wars book, The Lost Tribe of the Sith, available for free download :)

Deathtroopers

This Halloween, Star Wars publishing goes someplace very new and very scary, with the release of the first Star Wars horror novel, Deathtroopers, by Joe Schreiber. The text for the back cover is still to come, but this front cover art by Indika is so creepy, I just couldn't wait to share it with you.
